(KUTV) — For North Star Elementary principal Nathan Elkins, every day is a full one.
His school, located in the northwest quadrant of Salt Lake City, is fraught with challenges. He has a diverse student population whose families are often dealing with financial issues.
In addition, his school is located in a part of the city where the air quality is considered to be some of the worst in the state. North Star is surrounded by oil refineries, the airport and its playground backs up to Interstate 215.
