(KUTV) – Lawmakers are proposing a bill that would require drivers of all vehicles in Utah counties with some of the poorest air quality to pass emissions tests.
If passed this upcoming legislative session, diesel drivers in Utah County would be directly impacted.
Salt Lake, Davis, Cache, and Weber counties already have similar requirements.
“It’s just a fairness. If one vehicle should be tested, so should the other. And the cost should be the same,” said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Patrice Arent (D-HD 36). “We want to make sure that people realize their vehicle has gone out of compliance and just like a gasoline vehicle, it needs to be fixed.”
