The Provo Municipal Council’s decision Tuesday to charge a new monthly fee for solar customers has sparked a lot of comments from Provo residents and stakeholders.
During the meeting, several members of the public voiced concerns about the fees and how the city overall was approaching the use of solar energy.
The council voted 4-3 to add a monthly fee based on the size of a customer’s solar array on top of regular base fees. The fee is $3 per kilowatt and the average residential rooftop solar array is 6.15 kilowatts, according to city figures.
