Little City, Inc. is a Utah benefit corporation whose goal is to activate underutilized urban land while providing small commercial spaces and creating innovative urban places.
Little City’s first project, FLEET, is a pop-up space in Salt Lake City’s Granary District. The project transforms a small stretch of asphalt on 400 West, along the edge of the SLC’s old “Fleet” Block between 800 and 900 South.
FLEET integrates small commercial spaces, a community plaza, landscaping, and event programming into a place for business incubation and neighborhood gathering.
A centerpiece of the project is a set of movable buildings made from modified shipping containers. Around the world, containers are increasingly repurposed into innovative commercial and residential buildings, due to their strength, modular design, mobility, and aesthetic.
Since FLEET landed nearly three years ago, it has been home to small local businesses and organizations, a popular series of beer gardens in 2019, artisan markets, community events and performances, and provided a small informal neighborhood public space.
