This past week has been a challenging one. Out of care for our community and in the spirit of protecting the health and safety of all who would have supported us, HEAL Utah and our coalition of community members, organizations, researchers, and individuals have decided to cancel the Rally to Protect Health, Land, and Culture the Uranium Industry scheduled for Saturday, September 27th in Salt Lake City. While we are saddened not to gather in person, our commitment to protecting our communities, our lands, and our future remains steadfast.

The rally would have been a peaceful expression of our democratic rights, but in the presently charged political climate, we also feel strongly it is part of our responsibility to prioritize the safety of our community. This decision does not mean we are backing down. HEAL continues to protect communities from air pollution, and radioactive and toxic threats.

The ongoing harms of uranium mining and milling dictate the imperatives of our work, as Utah ploughs ahead with reviving this dangerous industry. We will continue to hold the uranium industry accountable for its toxic legacy and to advocate for a healthier, safer future. This includes opposing the irresponsible operation of the Energy Fuels uranium mill alongside the White Mesa Concerned Community, opposing a proposed enrichment facility near one of Utah’s fastest-growing communities, and calling into question the broader revival of the uranium industry under the guise of a risky commitment to nuclear energy.

We thank you for standing with us. We encourage everyone to stay connected, support one another, and join us in the work ahead. If you’d like to take action against the uranium industry in Utah, please sign our petition against the uranium industry in Utah To Stand In Solidarity With Indigenous Communities Opposed To Energy Fuels’ Uranium Mill

In place of the SLC rally, please consider joining us at the annual Spiritual Walk and Protest hosted by the White Mesa Concerned Community on Saturday October 4, 2025.
