After years of shutdowns and navigating a global pandemic, we finally got to bring back our annual Fall Party!

Utah is home to what is known as “the mighty 5” national parks.” These include Bryce, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef National Parks. Utahns across the state are extremely proud of their national parks, but with the great privilege of being home to these parks comes the great responsibility of keeping these national parks clean for everyone to continue to enjoy.
What started as a group of concerned citizens coming together in Tooele to protect their community has grown to a collective of over 20,000 supporters from all parts of Utah. We would not be able to be where we are today if it weren’t for everyone who built this organization, set its course, kept us accountable and on track, and shared their resources to help bring our collective vision of a cleaner, healthier world ever closer.
The fight is not over yet: On September 21st, the Business and Labor Committee will hear the recommendations from the UBCC and pass it to the Utah Legislature, where it can be fully adopted as a new bill.
In partnership with the Utah State Legislature, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR), and the Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah (HEAL Utah), the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is holding Free Fare for Clean Air days on Thursday and Friday, September 1 and 2, 2022.
“This bill should mark the start of a new opportunity to finally prioritize our health and our environment as a nation.”
In the last 10 years, Utah has grown 18.4% and is expected to grow by 66% within the next 40 years. As Utah’s population increases, area sources like buildings will likely become the primary source of air pollution throughout the state. This makes revising Utah’s outdated building codes to the most efficient and sustainable codes a critical strategy in reducing emissions and safeguarding our health + environment.
With mixed emotions, we announce that Myron Willson, one of HEAL’s longtime board members, will retire from the board. While we are sad to see him go, we are so thankful for his years of dedicated service!
Please join us in welcoming HEAL Utah’s three newest board members, Gabriela Portugal, Briana Kobor, and John R. Contreras.
